NGW Faculty Bring Their Expertise to Summits
June 24, 2008An NGW Summit is designed to immerse musicians in a specific style of music. This exciting program selection offers students the opportunity to study specific topics with world-class faculty members, attend workshops with master artists, and have many opportunities to perform. Faculty members James Hogan, Harry Jacobson and Ken Steiger offer their expertise to NGW Summits across the country.
NGW is excited to have guitarist James Hogan at the Connecticut Week 1, Week 3, and Virginia Rock Summits this year. James has been performing, recording, and teaching music for nearly twenty years. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Jazz Performance from the University of North Florida, and is well known for his integration of jazz, fusion, metal, country and blues in his playing. With his eclectic style, James has performed and recorded with hundreds of artists including Dave Brubeck, Arturo Sandoval, Chaka Khan, Enrique Iglesias, Kurt Elling, Jane Monheit, Buddy Miles, and many many more. James has been doing a lot of playing and recording this year, including new projects with NASCAR, EA Games, and virtuoso jazz organist Scott Giddens. He will be teaching his “Rock Fusion” course in Virginia and CT1. “I’ve got some killer concepts, and some new licks of doom that I can’t wait to share with the class,” says James. He will also be teaching “Better off Shred” in CT3. “Get ready to release the fury!”
Harry Jacobson began playing guitar at age 13 in Pittsburgh, PA. He has since played, recorded, and taught all over the world. Harry has shared the stage with such artists as Jaco Pastorious, Patti Labelle, Pat Travers, and Tommy Aldrige. He also performs with recording artist Keisa Brown and will soon be featured with Chris Cain in an upcoming live performance DVD. Harry became an NGW faculty member in 1987. His blues seminars have been a popular choice at all NGW locations and he also offers online lessons at Workshoplive.com. This year, “Blues and Beyond” will be offered at NGW Blues Summits in Connecticut and Texas, and Harry couldn’t be happier to be there. “For decades, N.G.W. has maintained the perfect balance between hard work and jus' plain fun. I think this is one of the reasons there are so many return students, many of which I see taking my seminars 2 and 3 years in a row.
I am very proud to say this will be my 22nd year teaching at the workshop. I think it would be safe to say that I'm a lifer.”
Ken Steiger began playing guitar in 1980, having been influenced by the sounds of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and AC/DC. After years of study, and new found influences in Malmsteen, Stariani, and Vai, Ken graduated from GIT, and has been teaching Metal/Hard Rock there since 1997. He currently performs with his Instru-METAL shred guitar band, “Project Steiger,” who are currently recording their latest release, “STEIGER Studio X.” Ken recently released his new instruction DVD “No Reading Required: Metal Guitar Licks” and also had the opportunity to work on the Warner Brothers movies “Rock Star.” Teaching for NGW for four years, and offering online lessons at Workshoplive.com, Ken will be offering his current seminar “Super Charge Your Chops” at the LA Rock Summit for the last time. Ken says, “Super Charge Your Chops is a killer week long study of the tools you need to get ahead….kind of a Shred Boot Camp.” Don’t miss this last opportunity to sign up for this once in a lifetime course.
NGW Summits are the perfect experience for intermediate to advanced players of all styles. Check out all of our Summits and see what NGW has in store for you this summer. To learn more about these faculty members, please visit their websites.
